1/4" scale model for a set for the play "Bad Seed" by William March.

For those of you who don't know, Bad Seed was written in the 50s, and is well known for being the first in the "creepy, evil child" genre. In an idyllic suburban apartment in the late 1950s, a perfect housewife's perfect life is shattered by the slow realization that her perfect eight year old daughter is a cold blooded killer.
While it's essentially a "realistic" set, the forced perspective creates a sense of heightened drama (which works really well for this particular play,) and the colors, though inspired by a period palette, are slightly "off" to add to the tension.

I can't say enough about the novel. It's brilliant. Read it. Seriously.

Sorry, I don't (and the original model is locked up in storage halfway across the country, so there won't be any more shots of this one for the foreseeable future. :) )

If you're interested in model building, I'd recommend this:

this is great! I have great respect for anyone who can make those models, I just don't have the patience! ^^; I can definitely get the 50's vibe - it's fantastic! :D

I read it twice. Once when I was a teenager and too young to really understand its implications. It was only after I'd read it again as an adult, and appreciated it, not just as a thriller, but as an introduction to the reality of sociopathic behavior, that it had its real effect on me. The story, and the concept, still fascinates me.
